About

The Society's origins can be traced to the founding of the Keep Bronte Beautiful Committee in 1999, from which the Society has grown. In May 2003 the inaugural meeting of the BBHS proper was held at Bronte Public School where it was resolved to proceed to incorporate as a non profit association, established to ensure that Bronte’s historical significance and heritage values may be better appreciated, preserved and promoted for the future

The Aims and Objectives of the Society are:

  1. Collection, preservation and presentation of the historical record of the people and environs of Bronte Beach.
  2. To advocate for the preservation of, and maintenance of, the heritage of Bronte Beach and surrounds.
  3. The education of young people about the historical significance and heritage value of the Bronte Beach area.
  4. Participation in policy development and implementation in relation to Bronte Beach heritage issues.
  5. The production of high quality publications and other such materials as deemed appropriate about the history and heritage of the Bronte Beach area.
  6. Raising of funds through various activities including securing sponsorship, grants, bequests and sales of publications and other materials, to support the various activities of the society.
  7. To cooperate with similar associations as appropriate.
  8. Any other heritage preservation, presentation and promotion issues as deemed appropriate.

In 2003 the Society's activites include the collection of an Oral History of Bronte and environs, an exciting project which will interview many of Bronte's long term residents and record their stories. The oral histories are intended to be archived at the Waverley Library under whose kind auspices the project was begun.
